Oral hygiene is a major variable to consider before undergoing clear aligner treatment!

If you are starting with an unhealthy environment, the probability of a successful treatment decreases.

How can you tell if you need to improve?

1- You have untreated cavities
2- You have gingivitus or periodontal disease
3- You have bad breath

Because of the innate movement of the teeth during osteoclastic and osteoblastic activity, a patient who doesn't have a healthy mouth is susceptible to inflammation, pain or discomfort and irregular retention when in treatment.

It is strongly suggested that patients practice healthy oral hygiene before considering clear aligners.

There are many ways to practice healthy hygiene.  You can find many suggestions online, some are:

  • Brushing with tooth paste

  • Making regular visits to the dentist

  • Avoiding tobacco and alcohol

Once you have fundamental oral health, you will be a good candidate for a healthy treatment and perfect smile!
